Winter Edition
Human in the Loop: Misunderstood
The main textbook. 18 chapters, 18 technical appendices with reference implementations, a complete teaching package, and the full five-dimension framework for evaluating human-in-the-loop systems.
Winter is organized around the five-dimension HITL framework: uncertainty detection, intervention design, timing, stakes calibration, and feedback integration. Each chapter opens with a concrete scenario — a 911 dispatcher, a hospital alarm system, a criminal sentencing algorithm — before developing the technical and design principles behind it.
Technical appendices follow each chapter with Python reference implementations. The teaching package includes instructor notes and full solutions for all 18 chapters.
